Charlotte believes that everyone deserves to look and feel like the most beautiful, confident version of themselves every day through the power of makeup. As a makeup artist turned entrepreneur, Charlotte is one of the UK’s most famous beauty industry exports and continues to push boundaries with her award-winning, record-breaking, universally-loved makeup, skincare + fragrance brand.
Born in London and raised in Ibiza, Charlotte grew up surrounded by inspiring artists, musicians, actors and writers. With her father, Lance, a painter, and mother, Patsy, a fashion producer, she always knew she would pursue a creative career.
There were two key moments that had a huge impact on Charlotte. The first was meeting renowned makeup artist, Mary Greenwell, on Formentera beach when Charlotte was 11 years old, which opened her eyes to the world of makeup. The second was discovering the transformative power of makeup when, aged 13, Charlotte started wearing mascara and people suddenly reacted to her in a different and more positive way. “I instantly felt more confident, more attractive and more empowered. I was always walking a path towards makeup artistry.”
Before starting Charlotte Tilbury Beauty, Charlotte worked with industry leaders to create best-selling products and to launch entire beauty lines, leading creative product development for brands including Helena Rubenstein, MAC, Armani, Burberry and Tom Ford.
Having worked up to 40 fashion shows a season, Charlotte has started trends on the runways of New York, Milan, Paris and London, acting as show makeup director for brands such as Prada, Miu Miu, Alexander McQueen, Roberto Cavalli, Lanvin and Chloé among many others.
Charlotte began her career in the ’90s and has since created cover looks for the world’s biggest fashion magazines. She has worked on over 100 Vogue covers and is the only makeup artist to have had three simultaneous Vogue covers for the US, British and French editions in September 2011. Charlotte has worked on beauty campaigns for the biggest luxury fashion houses, from Fendi to Prada, and collaborated with the industry’s most well-regarded photographers, from Mert & Marcus to Mario Testino.
