What does pink setting powder do?

Pink is such a beauty-boosting colour – whether you’re glazing your lips with pink lipstick, creating a romantic pink eyeshadow look, or rouging your cheeks with pink blush, there’s something so magical about the way shades of pink can lift the look of your makeup. Pink setting powder takes notes from the dreamy tones of pink makeup and gives your complexion the blushing appearance of an English rose. Just like skin-toned shades of makeup powder, pink setting powder can be used to set makeup into place and give your complexion a smooth-and-blur effect, however, it also has an array of beauty benefits that you can only get from adding a wink of pink powder to your look:

Colour corrects the appearance of dark circles

Dark circles are one of the most common skin concerns that people in my makeup chair talk to me about, and what a lot of them don’t know is that you can disguise the appearance of dull-looking skin tone and darkness under eyes with pink setting powder. A rosy shade of pink has the ability to neutralise the look of blue tones that give your eye area a dark, shadowed appearance. When setting concealer under your eyes, try using a pink setting powder to set and colour correct in one step!

Complements cool-toned skin

Pink makeup powder can look flattering on everyone, but it marries particularly well with cool-toned complexions. Cool-toned skin often has a pink undertone that is beautifully complemented by pink setting powder. Tapping on a shade of pink setting powder gives skin a rosy, cherry blossom appearance that beautifully enhances the pink tones in your complexion.

Brightening filter effect

Working on set for over 30 years, I’ve learned so many lighting tricks that I have then bottled with my makeup collection. There’s something so flattering about the glow of pink lights… Old Hollywood actresses used to carry around pink lights to act like a beauty filter, lifting and enlivening the look of their complexions on camera with pink light tricks! Using a pink setting powder will give your skin a similar pink tint that looks effortlessly beautifying. Press pink setting powder under your eyes, on the top of your cheekbones, and underneath your contour to instantly lift and brighten the look of your facial architecture.

Complements other pink makeup products

Monochromatic makeup looks will always be chic, darlings, and using a pink setting powder will perfectly complement the pink makeup products you have used to beautify your lips, cheeks and eyes. My Pillow Talk Beauty Soulmates Face Palette includes an expertly colour-matched pink setting powder and pink blush to give your makeup look a pretty pink love effect! It’s a magical match for any of the products in my globally loved Pillow Talk collection and the touch of rose that it gives your complexion will also look sensational alongside a pearly pop of my Pinkgasm Beauty Light Wand or a satin-shine pink lipstick from my Hollywood Beauty Icon collection.

What does peach setting powder do?

Peach setting powder is similar to pink setting powder in the sense that it has colour-correcting properties and subtly tints your complexion, however, the effect that you get from pink vs peach setting powder differs slightly. Peach is a warmer, more orange-leaning shade of pink which makes it perfect for adding warmth to your complexion. If you are interested in the abilities of pink setting powder to cancel out the appearance of dark circles but don’t feel like pink is your colour, I recommend experimenting with a peachy shade of powder.

Cancels out the appearance of dark circles

Dark circles can also be colour corrected with peach setting powder. Peach has warm, orangey tones that are perfect for counteracting the blue tones that exist within dark circles. For pronounced dark circles, I recommend applying a colour-correcting concealer like my Magic Vanish, then setting it with a peach setting powder to effectively neutralise dullness and darkness around the eye area.

Complements warm-toned skin

Peachy pinks are universally flattering and are perfect for warming up the look of your face. If your skin is naturally warm toned, peachier shades of pink will pop on your complexion. Peach setting powders will bring out any peach or golden undertones in your skin and give your face a warm, healthy-looking, sunshine appearance.

Brightening filter effect

On set, warm-toned lighting is used to give complexions a rich, golden glow. By using a peach setting powder, you can mimic the filter effect of warm beauty lights and give your complexion a kiss of sweet peach. Applying a soft veil of peach setting powder on your whole face will give your complexion a warm, even-looking, peachy tint, or you can create a warm, brightening effect by focusing peach powder under your eyes, on the high points of your cheekbones and alongside your contour to create a flattering flush and lift effect.

Complements other peach makeup products

Adding a peach setting powder to your peach makeup look will carry the beautiful, peachy tones that you love into your complexion. If you are wearing a peach blush like my Beautiful Skin Island Glow Lip + Cheek Tint in Beach Peach or my Beauty Light Wand in Peachgasm, pairing them with a peach setting powder creates such a seamless look and beautifully meshes your foundation and blush.

What’s the difference between pink setting powder and regular setting powder?

Darlings, regular setting powder and pink setting powder share a lot of the same qualities – they both smooth and blur the look of skin, mattify and remove unwanted shine, and set liquid and cream makeup products into place. The difference between the two lies in their unique tone; regular setting powder is designed to closely match your foundation shade to create a perfected, porcelain-like skin finish that looks super smooth, whereas pink setting powder is intended to brighten and colour-correct the look of your existing skin tone, introducing neutralising pink or peach tones that help skin to look brighter and more lifted.

  1. Meg wearing pink setting powder to colour correct dark circles

    1. Colour correct the appearance of dark circles

Tapping a light veil of pink or peach setting powder onto your under eyes can help to neutralise the appearance of dark circles, making your eye area appear brighter and more awake. To effectively colour correct under eyes, first apply a colour-correcting concealer like Magic Vanish in a pink, peach, orange or red tone that will help to counteract cool blue tones around the eyes. Then, apply a medium or full-coverage concealer on top to give your under eyes a perfected, even-looking appearance. Finally, set your under eyes with pink setting powder to help cancel out any remaining dullness.

    2. Diffuse the edges of your blush

Since pink and peach setting powders have similar tones to the pink and peach blushes that you love, they are the perfect transition shade for getting a seamless blend from your blush into your foundation. After you have applied your blush, take a pink or peach setting powder on the Powder & Sculpt Brush and brush in light circles around the edges of your blush. This will diffuse the edges and create a dreamy gradient that flows effortlessly from poppy, pigmented blush into smooth-as-butter foundation.

  3. Pillow Talk Beauty Soulmates Face Palette in Flawless Pink open

    3. Brighten and bake

Pink and peach tones of setting powder are perfect for baking your makeup because they give your complexion a beautiful, brightening effect. To brighten and bake, press setting powder into the centre of your forehead and under your eyes, cut along the underside of your cheek contour, tap onto the sides of your nose, then leave it for a few minutes to bake. Sweep it away with a fluffy brush and you’ll reveal bright, pinky-peach highlights that pop!

  4. Meg and Isabella wearing pink setting powder cloud blush looks

    4. Mix with blush for a cloud blush effect

Cloud blush is where your blush looks so velvety smooth and diffuses so effortlessly into your complexion, it looks like a beautiful pink or peach cloud! To get the cloud blush look, tap the Bronzer & Blusher Brush into your blush shade of choice, then swirl it into your pink or peach setting powder before sweeping it along your cheekbones.
