How to Apply Blush on a Round Face

Round faces are beautiful canvases for blush! Having a rounder face shape often comes with evenly proportioned space on the forehead, cheeks and jaw as well as soft, rounded features that are easy to flush with blush.

When applying blush on a round face, it’s key to apply slightly higher on the cheeks to help visibly lift and define the shape of the face. Using the outer corners of the eyes as a guideline, sweep blush onto the tops of the apples of the cheeks to create a soft lift effect that helps bring structure to the face. By focusing blush placement slightly higher, a round face can appear more sculpted without accentuating the natural roundness of the cheeks.

How to Apply Blush on a Square Face

Square faces are naturally more angular than other face shapes, with the corners of the face such as the cheekbones, jaw and temples often being sharp and angular. When applying blush to a square face, the aim is to soften the look of the face by creating the illusion of more rounded features.

When using blush on a square face, it’s best to focus your blush placement on the apples of the cheeks to make them appear rounder. Apply in gentle, circular motions before lightly sweeping outwards towards the ears to get a seamless blend.

Tilbury Tip: Blush application shouldn’t travel too close to the nose; use your pupils as a marker, ensuring your blush application stops in line with the centre of your eyes.

How to Apply Blush on an Oval Face

With an oval face, the features are slightly longer than they are wide, with more space in the forehead area. When applying blush to an oval-shaped face, the intention is to help widen and round the look of your facial features while flushing them with rosy radiance.

Apply blush to the cheeks for a healthy-looking flush, accentuating the apples of the cheeks to make an oval face appear wider. To get a more sculpted-looking blush look, follow along your contour with blush, moving upwards and outwards onto the cheekbones and marrying the two with soft, circular motions.

How to Apply Blush on a Diamond-Shaped Face

Diamond faces are similar to oval faces, but are slightly more angular with a pointed chin, narrow hairline and higher, more pronounced cheekbones.

To apply blush on a diamond-shaped face, stamp blush onto the tops of the cheekbones, blending outwards towards the ears for a flawless-looking finish! A diamond face shape is perfectly suited for a higher blush placement, carrying colour on the cheekbones beautifully thanks to their prominence on the face.

How to Apply Blush on a Heart-Shaped Face

Heart-shaped faces resemble a classic love heart shape with a wider forehead and pointier chin. Blush can be used to soften the look of your features and helps the cheeks to look rounder and more cherub-like.

Apply blush onto the apples of the cheeks, starting slightly lower and following a curved, U-shaped motion along the cheekbones and towards the temples. Be sure to swing your brush back and forth to blend out the edges for a seamless blush look that helps to lift the look of a heart-shaped face.
